MEXICO CITY, May 5 (Xinhua) -- Santos Laguna has sacked Argentine manager Fernando Ortiz after a dismal Mexican top-flight campaign, the club said on Monday.
The announcement followed the team's last-place finish in the Liga MX Clausura tournament with just two wins in 17 games.
"The club has made the decision to end Fernando Ortiz and his coaching staff's tenure at the helm of the first team. We appreciate their dedication and commitment and wish them success," Santos Laguna said in a statement on social media.
According to local media reports, Argentina's Diego Cocca and Robert Siboldi of Uruguay are among the frontrunners to replace Ortiz when the new Apertura season begins in July.
Santos Laguna won the most recent of its six Mexican top-flight titles in 2018. ■
