The Hang Seng Index opened at 23,169.83 points, up 507.12 points, or 2.24 percent.

The S&P/ASX 200 index opened at 8,164.20 points, up 12.80 points, or 0.16 percent.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average opened at 36,903.66 points, up 72.97 points, or 0.20 percent.

The Straits Times Index opened at 3,845.69 points, down 14.72 points, or 0.38 percent.
